Christiane Hieronymus

Christiane Hieronymus is Head of the Peace Policy Division at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), leading the ministry’s work on fragility, the Humanitarian–Development–Peace Nexus and the development–security nexus. From 2022 to 2026, she served as Senior Advisor to the German Executive Director at the World Bank Group, focusing on governance, accountability, partnerships and work in FCV contexts. She previously headed BMZ divisions for Afghanistan and Pakistan and for Transitional Development Aid, shaping Germany’s structural crisis response instrument in coordination with humanitarian actors. She has held senior leadership roles abroad, including Head of Development Cooperation in the Palestinian territories and Head of Economic Cooperation and Development at the German Embassy in New Delhi. She studied law, specialising in international and European law.
