Dr. Henning Plate

Henning Plate is Director for Reconstruction, Crisis Prevention and Crisis Management at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Born in 1973, he is an economist who graduated from Kiel University, an IDOS alumnus, and holds a PhD in political science from the University of Potsdam.

Since joining BMZ in 2001, Henning Plate has held multiple positions at BMZ headquarters, including responsibilities for UN affairs, Central America, and Peace and Security, as well as abroad, including assignments as Head of Development in Vietnam and Afghanistan. From 2016 onwards, he headed BMZ’s Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asia division, and later BMZ’s Division for Crisis Management, Reconstruction and Transitional Development Aid. He subsequently served as BMZ’s Director for Bilateral Cooperation and Aid Effectiveness.
