Samuel Sontag is an international legal researcher, mediator, and human rights advocate whose work focuses on transitional justice, climate justice, and community-level justice processes. Most recently, he served as a Global Public Service Fellow at the Berghof Foundation’s Global Learning Hub for Transitional Justice and Reconciliation, where he designed and co-authored research examining the linkages between transitional justice and climate action, including a case study on Mindanao, the Philippines. He also contributed to Berghof’s work on transitional justice in Syria.

Samuel holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Columbia Law School, where he worked with the Human Rights Clinic on climate and transitional justice in Yemen and with the Mediation Clinic, mediating civil and workplace disputes. Previously, he supported European human rights litigation at the AIRE Centre and worked on reparations with the Nuhanovic Foundation.
