Dr Alain Tschudin is Professor in the WITS University School of Governance and Consultant to the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa on the nexus approach, specifically how interlinkages between peace and security, humanitarian aid, development and human rights can accelerate the implementation of the SDGs across Africa.
Alain served as Executive Director of the NGO Good Governance Africa from 2015-2020, sitting on their SADC, US and UK Boards. He has also consulted for Save the Children on child migration in Africa, served as UNICEF inter-agency Child Protection assessment coordinator for northern Syria, ran a graduate programme on Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding at UKZN and worked on social integration and economic participation of migrants in Spain for the European Commission. A registered psychologist with over 20 years’ experience, he holds a PhD in Psychology from Natal University and a PhD in Divinity from the University of Cambridge, where he was Swiss Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
Most recently, Alain co-authored a paper on “Peacebuilding through Public Participation Mechanisms in Local Government”. In 2020, he co-edited the anthology “Gandhi now: blessed are the peacemakers and sustainers of life” and completed editing a trilogy of volumes on “Extremisms in Africa”.
