Global Initiative for Digital Inclusion and Communication (GIDIC), #defyhatenow associate, Cameroon

Pedmia Shatu Tita is a communications expert, peace journalist and digital rights activist for gender advocacy. With a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Buea she is a close associate of the #defyhatenow initiative in Cameroon as a key developer of its ‚Social Media Hate Speech Mitigation Field Guide‘. As founder of ‚Global Initiative for Digital Inclusion and Communication‘ Pedmia pursues a vision to create safe spaces online, through which she has trained youths on peacebuilding initiatives and basic human rights. As part of the #defyhatenow #FactsMatter237 program, now known as ‘Africa Fact-Checking Fellowship Cameroon’ (AFFC) aimed at countering hate, violent extremism online and offline, Pedmia received an award from ADISI-CAMEROUN on Data Verification and Fact-Checking. For the 2020 #defyhatenow #PeaceJam on UN Day of Peace, Pedmia hosted the biggest online hate speech mitigation event, focused on the role of women and youths in peacebuilding.

The FriEnt Peacebuilding Forum is a series of events on current and overarching challenges and trends in peacebuilding. With the Peacebuilding Forum, we want to provide future-oriented impulses for the development of peacebuilding and strengthen the visibility and importance of the policy field in its entirety.
