Raissa H. Jajurie
Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC), Philippines
Raissa H. Jajurie is a member of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC), which is tasked to draft the Bangsamoro Basic Law, as part of the implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB). She became a member of the Commission upon nomination by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in 2013, and then again when the Commission was reconstituted in February 2017. She also sits in the Board of Consultants of the MILF Peace Panel, and has been a regular member of the MILF delegation during the peace talks since late 2011. In the negotiations, she sat as member of the Technical Working Group that negotiated the Annex on Revenue Generation and Wealth Sharing, which is now part of the CAB.
Prior to her work in the peace process, Raissa worked full-time for more than 2 decades as researcher, trainer, and lawyer with the Alternative Legal Assistance Center (known locally as “SALIGAN”), a non-government organization providing legal assistance to women, local communities, and marginalized sectors and identities.
Raissa co-founded the Bangsamoro Lawyers’ Network (BLN) and Nisa Ul-Haqq fi Bangsamoro (Women for Justice in the Bangsamoro). While BLN sought to provide legal empowerment to Bangsamoro communities, Nisa worked on Muslim women’s issues in the context of Islam and the Bangsamoro culture.
Raissa is a Tausug who hails from Jolo, Sulu, which is south of the Philippines. She received her degrees in Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the Ateneo de Manila University, and Bachelor of Laws from the University of the Philippines.
